Mission - To operationally evaluate the Ju 188 and to conduct conversion training for KG 6 crews.

1 Mar 1943 - Ordered formed at Rechlin

Jul 1943 - at the end of the month moved to Chievres/Belgium to begin converting crews from I./KG 6 to the Ju 188E-1.

Sep 1943 – towards the end of the month moved to Brussels-Melsbroek to carry out conversion training for crews from III./KG 6.

21 Oct 1943 – on or around this date it was ordered renamed 4./KG 66 at Avord.

11 Nov 1943 - Luftflotte 3 reported some losses for Erprobungsstaffel d.Lw. 188. Luftflotte 3 reported that 3 Ju 188E-1s belonging to Erprobungsstaffel d.Lw. 188 were shot down by fighters near Amiens at a cost of 5 killed and 5 wounded. Another 5 crew members survived uninjured.
